چکیده
of most of the Candida strains tested was noticed, whereas the rest of the surface was covered with a thin layer of bacterial growth. Table 1 shows the mean number and the percentage of strains of C. albicans, as well as Candida of other species which inhibit the growth of the tested bacteria. The standard deviations of these mean numbers, for the 84 strains of C. albicans, were quite low, but for the 10 strains of the other species of Candida, they were high. However, the x2 values of the differences of these mean numbers were very high. We may note the following: (a) The antibacterial action of C. albicans against the tested bacteria is considerably stronger than that of the other species of Candida. (b) The antibacterial action of each strain of C. albicans differs from that of other strains. Some strains inhibit every bacteria tested, others only few. (c) The gram-negative bacteria are more sensitive than staphylococci to the antibacterial action of the Candida and specially P. vulgaris and P. aeruginosa. The zone of inhibition with the lastnamed bacteria is larger than with E. coli (2 to 3 cm) and it is considerably smaller with S. aureus. (d) With some strains of C. parakrusei we noticed an enhancement of the growth of the tested bacteria accompanied with a depression of the growth of this Candida.

Bacterium Anitratum and Mima Polymorpha Infection in Uganda.
Eleven cases of infection with Bacterium anitratum and one with Mima polymorpha are described. Microscopically the organisms showed Gram-negative or Gram-variable diplococci with a tendency to form filaments. There appear to be a number of biochemical variants of B. anitratum. Serological cross-reactions with the genus Klebsiella was found. The antibiotic patterns are given and particular atten...
متن کاملFurther Observations on Mima Polymorpha and Achromobacter (bacterium) Anitratum.
Further investigations on the morphology, biochemical reactions, and serological relationships of strains of Mima polymorpha and Achromobacter (Bacterium) anitratum are reported. The results seem to indicate such a close relationship that it may yet be necessary to reconsider the nomenclature of these organisms.
متن کاملSlide agglutination technique for the rapid differentiation of Mima polymorpha and Herellea from the Neisseriae.
The genera Mima and Herellea, members of the tribe Mimeae (De Bord, 1942), contain organisms which morphologically resemble the Neisseriae upon primary isolation. Since they are being isolated in increasing numbers from the spinal fluid of patients with acute meningitis, a method for their differentiation from the Neisseriae would be advantageous. Schaub and Hauber (1948) classified a gramnegat...

1. The aerobic metabolism of cyclohexanecarboxylic acid by a bacterium isolated from garden soil (Acinetobacter anitratum) was investigated. 2. Evidence for the formation of cyclohex-1-ene-1-carboxylate, 2-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate and pimelate when either cell suspensions or cell-free extracts were incubated in the presence of cyclohexanecarboxylic acid is presented. 3. Crude cell-free ext...
متن کاملGlucose Dehydrogenase of Bacterium Anitratum: an Enzyme with a Novel Prosthetic Group.
Glucose dehydrogenase of Bacterium anitratum catalyzes the reduction by glucose and other aldoses of dyes such as 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol and phenazine methosulfate without the intervention of pyridine or flavin nucleotides (2, 3). The primary hydrogen acceptor is a group that is linked to the protein and revealed by a broad absorption band in the near ultraviolet in the oxidized state, a...
